Blitzkrieg: Chinese Model 113 Comparison

wot-blitzkrieg-banner
Blitzkrieg is a regular column devoted to the very popular MMO World of Tanks. If you’ve got a topic you’d like our resident expert Matthew “Scope” Pearce to cover, drop him a line!

G’day gamers – firstly I would like to apologise for my lack of articles over the holiday period. Myself and my family have had a very trying time with which we nearly lost a family member.

Real life aside, another reason for no articles was because there has not been much in the way of news for World of Tanks until recently with the launch of the Chinese tank tree with patch 8.3. You can check out the Patch 8.3 Trailer, or the the 8.3 patch notes here!

So what will we be checking out in this week’s column? Well, let’s take a look at the new Chinese Tier X heavy tank and compare them to the Russians.

The Model 113

113

Development on the Model 113 started in 1963 the vehicle was conceived as an alternative to the WZ-111 and used parts and components of medium tanks -the project was cancelled however due to the development of main battle tanks.

Let’s compare the stats of the Model 113 to both the Russian IS-4 and the IS-7 heavy tanks using the three major categories firepower, armour and speed/mobility and see where the Model 113 stands.

Firepower

The Model 113 has the 122mm 60-122T Gun which can penetrate 257mm of armour with standard shells, dealing an average damage of 440 hit points with an accuracy of 0.36 at 100m at a rate of fire of 5.5 rounds per minute with an aiming time of 2.7 seconds. That means this gun has 2420 DPM compared to the IS-4’s 122mm M62-T2 gun which can penetrate 268mm of armour with standard shells dealing an average damage of 440 hit points with an accuracy of 0.38 at 100m at a rate of fire of 5 rounds per minute and an aiming time of 2.9 seconds. That means this gun has 2200 DPM

And now for the Is-7’s gun the 130mm S-70 which can penetrate 260mm of armour with standard shells dealing an average damage of 490  hit points with an accuracy of 0.4 at 100m at a rate of fire of 4.38 rounds per minute and an aiming time of 3.4 seconds. that means this gun has 2146.2 DPM

So that means the Chinese Model 113 has the highest DPM of the tree tanks, the best accuracy and the quickest aim time. It comes at the cost of the lowest penetration although the gold rounds’ penetration is 400mm which is on par with the IS-4’s and 100mm more than the IS-7’s.

This means that the Model 113 wins the firepower comparison.

Armour

The Model 113 has 120mm of frontal hull, 90mm side and 70mm rear armour while its turret has 240mm of frontal, 150mm side and 80 rear armour. It also comes with 2.300 hit points

The IS-4 has 140mm of frontal hull 160mm side and 100mm rear armour while its turret has 250mm of frontal 200mm side and 170 rear armour, plus 2.500 hit points

The IS-7 has 150mm of frontal hull, 150mm side and 100mm rear armour while its turret has 240mm of frontal, 185mm side and 94mm rear armour, with 2.150 hit points

So this means that the IS-4 is the clear winner in terms of Armour as well as having the highest hit points.

Speed and Mobility

The Model 113 has a 750hp engine pushing the 45ton tank at a max speed of 50km – it is also able to traverse at 36deg a second and traverse its turret at 26deg a second.

The IS-4 has a 750h.p engine pushing the 66.3ton tank at a max speed of 43km the IS-4 can traverse 26deg a second and traverse 22deg a second with its turret.

The IS-7 has a 1.050h.p engine pushing the 70.95ton tank at a max speed of 50km with a traverse speed of 28deg a second and a turret traverse speed of 25deg a second.

That means that the Model 113 weighs less than both the IS-4 and the IS-7 giving it better acceleration but the same top speed of 50km as the IS-7 the Model 113 also has the best traverse speeds of the three tanks meaning it can turn faster and track targets quicker with its turret.

That means the Model 113 wins the Speed and Mobility comparison.

Comparison winner

So what we can see from the statistics is that the Model 113 has a very accurate gun that has good damage per minute of 2420 with a max speed of 50km . That’s a very good traverse speed but it suffers from having less armour than the Russian heavys as well as less gun penetration with normal rounds.

Unfortunately I was unable to try this tank out on the test server to give you guys my personal opinion on how I feel about this new heavy tank and how well it does, but after comparing the stats to some of the other Tier X tanks in game I would have to say the Model 113 looks like it will be a destructive force on the battlefield when driven by a skilled tank commander.

I will leave you with an image of the next tank I am working on unlocking – the German Leopard 1:

1st Armoured Regiment

So over to you: will you be working towards unlocking yourself the Model 113 Chinese Tier X Heavy Tank?

If Disney Made The Original Star Wars Trilogy

So, we all know that Disney is going to be the Force behind Episodes 7-9 of Star Wars, but what would it have been like back in the 1970s and 1980s if they’d been behind Episodes 4 to 6? This video provides one possibility of what could have occurred:

So maybe George Lucas’ stewardship looks a little better now?

WoW Zone by Zone Achievement Guide Part 6: Ghostlands, Eversong Woods and Tirisfal Glades

WoW Achievement Guide - Ghostlands, Tirisfal Glades and EversongWelcome to ZAGGARAT ( Jetsai’s Zone-by-Zone Achievement Guide for Getting Across the Realm with Alliance Toons), a comprehensive zone by zone guide to wrapping up every achievement you need. You can view all instalments by clicking here. The printer and screen friendly guides can be downloaded at the bottom of this post.

Ghostlands, Eversong Woods and Tirisfal Glades move us deep into Horde Territory.

Scarlet Monastery, Scarlet Halls and Zul’Aman will provide some challenging content but if you’re on a PvE server then there’s little to do in these zones other than exploration and pet battles.

If you’re on a PvP server it’s a great opportunity to practice your Orcish. ‘Kagh! Grombolar’ (Deploy the yak!) and ‘Bin mog g’thazag cha thrAkk gezzno’ (It looks like your face caught on fire and someone tried to put it out with a fork) are some of my personal favourites. Just kidding, Blizzard has made it pretty difficult to communicate cross-faction and are constantly updating their algorithms to prevent it, so most of your time here will probably be spent avoiding guards, getting the spacing right in D a p Ee bb (Y o u Lo se) and reminding yourself that killing lowbies is mean and no yard stick of your PvP prowess.

Other things that may happen while you’re completing your achievements in these three zones:

  • You may break some electronic equipment on your desk after the fourth time you try to fly in Ghostlands and realise you can’t.
  • You may feel a bit bad when a fresh level 12 Rogue, with a glinty eye and a sorely misguided sense of how well stealth protects him, skulks up behind you and crucifies himself on your lightning shield.
  • You may start to individually name each of the Maggots and Spirit Crabs you battle in the hunt for a rare Larva.
  • You may fantasise about winning a championship spelling bee with the word Lordaeron, then realise it’s way past time to get a life.

SWTOR: State Of The Game Update

balmorra11SWTOR’s Executive Producer, Jeff Hickman, has posted a ‘State Of The Game’ update on the official website to cover off a range of issues. You can read the whole shebang here, but the synopsis is:

1. End-game content: more stuff on the way, with Rise of The Hutt Cartel a significant component but with new content released around it.

We have a plan mapped out for the upcoming year that will keep the elder game fresh and interesting for players of all types. Overall, we’re aiming to introduce a more diverse array of activities – more stuff to do with your Companion, more challenges to tackle with groups, and more reasons for guilds to recruit. We’ll also be improving our itemization, introducing new incentives to revisit existing areas, and a lot of other exciting things that will be revealed as we move through the upcoming year.

2. PvP: Ilum is to be fixed/changed, with no new world PvP outside of Ilum coming this year.

As for pure Open World PvP…well, that’s a more difficult proposition. We are dedicated to providing excellent PvP experiences to our players, but we intend to focus our energy on PvP Seasons and new Warzones. We will be experimenting with a different approach to Open World PvP, something that encourages organic PvP in contested areas in a new and interesting way, but do not look for massive new Open World PvP this year

3. Character transfers: ability to transfer your characters to the PTS is coming soon, live character transfers across the board coming this year.

You should expect to see this come within the first part of this year. It will provide free character copies to PTS at any time (with possible restrictions dependent upon our testing needs at any given time). This will also lay the foundation for our new live character transfer system that will be coming later this year.

4. Same gender romance: it’s turned out harder to implement than expected but Rise Of The Hutt Cartel / Makeb will contain some same gender options.

Unfortunately, this will take a lot more work than we realized at the time and it (like some other pieces of content we talked about earlier in the year) has been delayed as we focused on the changes required to take the game Free-to-Play. As we have said in the past, allowing same gender romance is something we are very supportive of.

Secondly, I want to reveal today that we are adding SGR with some NPCs on Makeb and do intend on pursuing more SGR options in the future. More details to come!

What’s your take on Jeff Hickman’s update? A solid roadmap for the next few months or a more fragile wish list?

The Walking Dead FPS Trailer

Like a lot of people I’m a huge fan of The Walking Dead franchise. I’m currently playing the 2012-released point-and-click game and enjoying it heaps. I also spent quite a few hours during 2012 playing Left 4 Dead 2, so I’ve had a bit of zombie action – and that’s before playing The Secret World.

Which is why I was excited to hear a first-person shooter version of The Walking Dead is coming. Until I actually watched the trailer that is. Before I start my gripes, have a look for yourself:

Actually instead of whining, I’ll just pose a question: is there anything you see in that trailer that hasn’t been done better in other zombie games? Now that The Secret World has its reticle option I’d argue it looks at least as good and has a lot more gameplay options in addition.

If you want a laugh, read some of the comments on the vid on YouTube. The trailer overall does nothing to demonstrate to me it’s anything that a cash-grab from a very popular franchise.

Do you agree?

WoW Zone by Zone Achievement Guide Part 5: The Plaguelands and Scholomance

zaggarat-5Welcome to ZAGGARAT ( Jetsai’s Zone-by-Zone Achievement Guide for Getting Across the Realm with Alliance Toons), a comprehensive zone by zone guide to wrapping up every achievement you need. You can view all instalments by clicking here. The printer and screen friendly guides can be downloaded at the bottom of this post.

This week’s ZAGGARAT takes us to the Plaguelands where we first meet the Argent Dawn and Argent Crusade. This region also presents the first at-level dungeon with achievements – Scholomance.

I have to admit I used to hate both the Plaguelands. Apart from being drab and in desperate need of Zap Beezlerocket’s Interdimensional Cobweb Cleaner, they were awfully grindy and extremely difficult to move about in unaccosted. Install a beach, equip each of the mobs with a selection of bead jewellery or teach them how to braid hair and you’d have yourself a tropical holiday but Blizzard chose a different path when revamping these zones and they did a pretty good job.

Both Plaguelands are now cut-scene central. Lore-buffs will appreciate a personal introduction to Highlord Tirion Fordring and the story around Andorhol in Western Plaguelands has been condensed, tarted up with some cut-scenes and is much easier to follow. Those of you who are just after Blighted Plaguehawk will have to /popcorn while you quest as these zone-excusive battle pets aren’t available until after Andorhal is phased.

Eastern Plaguelands is tied together through the story of Fiona’s Caravan, with Gidwin and Tarenar providing all the quintessential elements of an epic Dwarf meets Blood Elf tale – friendship, paladin humour, tragedy, betrayal, ultimate reunion and a serious amount of rep with Argent Dawn.

In fact, you get Revered about half-way through the zone. A few repeatable quests later, one of which can be done in Heroic Scholomance and you’re Exalted.

Stratholme, surprisingly, still has a lot to offer achievement hunters. You need to do both live and dead sides to get Stratholme and credit toward Classic Dungeonmaster but the live side offers four books for Well Read and a repeatable quest for 2000 Argent Dawn Rep. Aurius Riverdare, on the dead side, has a chance to drop his gorgeous… er, I mean… very manly, Deathcharger.

Scholomance is where it’s all at, though, with some of the easiest and one of the hardest achievements to get your Reins of the Crimson Cloud Serpent. Shouts go to lancore89 of wowhead who developed some macros that have made Attention to Detail very much easier as well as any healer that has managed to retain their sanity after completing School’s Out Forever. Also don’t forget to grab a full supply of disguises for Polyformic Acid Science completed throughout the rest of Panda’s dungeons and The Invasion of Draenor from Lilian Voss’ room in either Heroic or Normal for Well Read as this is the only place you’ll find this book in the game now.
