World of Tanks: A Short Review

World of Tanks is a team based, free to play on-line PvP game where players take control of mid 20th century era tanks from Germany, USA, Soviet Union, France and soon to be UK.

With over 160 armored vehicles presently in the game, players have plenty of gaming ahead of them to research and upgrade components (Engines, Guns, Turrets etc) and then move onto bigger and better tanks.

New players will recieve a small number of free Tier 1 vehicles to get them started and earning both experience which is used to research upgrades and higher tier vehicles and also credits which are used to then purchase those upgrades, buy new vehicles and rearm and repair your current vehicles.

Players also have the option to buy in-game gold credits which can be used to buy premium Tanks which earn more than the usual xp and credits and to also buy premium time on their account which increases their earned XP and credits overall.

I found this game very easy to get into however some new players may feel thrown into the deep end when starting out in the free tanks, I found myself not really holding my own until I had reached Tier 5 and found the game a lot more fun from then on in, so keep fighting!

My ping to the US server is usually around the 230 mark and I found this easy to play with and didn’t feel so lagged as to make it un-playable.

Looking at the screenshots I have taken you could be forgiven for assuming the game is more sim than shooter but you would be wrong, the controls are very easy and the gameplay will have you hooked in no time.

Players can team up with friends by making platoon’s of 2-3 people depending on your account being premium or non premium. And Wargaming have made a valiant effort in creating an on-line ever changing battlefield for clan wars to duke it out.

Being free to play you owe it to yourself to give it a try, just try not to spend as much time on it as me and get out once in a while 🙂

Happy Tanking!

Deadpool Video Game: Teaser Released

My how we love the San Diego Comic-Con. The game announcements have been numerous and this is another one that’s got us a little excited. Marvel have  announced a 2013 release for the Activision / High Moon Studios game. The short trailer gives you some idea of what this game is like: not for the kids and heavily slanted at the male demographic. In fact, it reminded me a lot of Duke Nukem before he started to suck.

Have a look for yourself, but this is not a work-safe video:

There’s already a website for the game, so check it out. There’s no confirmation of what platforms / formats the game will appear on.

Over to you: are you a Deadpool fan and if so – do you like what you see so far?

Ultima Forever: Quest For The Avatar Announced

There are always heaps of new game announcements to coincide with the San Diego Comic Con. One that caught my eye was the announcement by EA/BioWare of a PC / iPad release of Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar.

There’s no firm release date as yet (“later this year”) but it certainly is an intriguing F2P option.

The full press release from EA:

What’s your thoughts – are you likely to give this a whirl?

Game of Thrones + Minecraft = Awesome

If you’ve watched Game of Thrones, used Minecraft, or ideally done both, you will want to have a closer look at this.

Westeroscraft is the community behind one of the most impressive building efforts I’ve seen in Minecraft. Their purpose is singular: to reconstruct the world of Westeros out of blocks. Using Minecraft, some custom texture packs and a team of people, they’ve created a range of locations already. Aside from the video below, you should check out this photo gallery for some stunning pics of what they’ve done.

Three questions taken from the Westeroscraft Wiki give you an idea of the scope of their project:

How long does it take you to make a project?
Depends. The entire project has been in production since December 2011. For each major build, plans are made on ours forums specifying everything from layout of the streets, to overall color scheme of the castle. Major builds take about a month usually, while some of the smaller castles take a couple of weeks at most.

What are you doing with the map when it’s finished?
The goal is to have an open world RPG/PVP map. We are in the process of writing custom quests and constructing a class system through the use of plugins on our server. Current ETA is December 2012, but no promises!

Where can I download the map?
You can’t. First off, the map is always a work in progress and is ever changing…why would you want to download an unfinished map? Second, the map is large. Very large. Uploading the map in a convenient way is not happening. We are, however, planning on releasing map files with individual builds on them. You can find them on the Media page of our website in the near future.

All that done, have a look at this video:

Over to you: have you built something impressive in Minecraft? Or do projects like this make you quake in your boots at the thought if achieving something similar? Let us know!
